Some of our favorite Duffield Lane stories have very little to do with clothes. Maggie has been part of Duffield Lane since the early days, modeling new collections, long shoot days, changing seasons, plenty of outfit changes, and all the little moments in between. Somewhere along the way, a working relationship became a friendship. So when we started dreaming up our fall collection photoshoot, spending the day at Maggie’s farm felt right. It gave us a chance to step into her world, photograph our newest fall styles in a place that felt completely real, and spend the day with someone who has been part of our story for years. And, as it turns out, those are usually the best shoot days.

We spent the day at her farm. Chickens wandering in and out of frames, fields stretching behind us, a little dirt underfoot, and plenty happening that was never going to make it onto a shot list.

It immediately changed the feeling of the day. There was less posing and more moving. More talking between shots. More laughing. More of those in-between moments that end up being some of our favorite photographs. That ease is hard to pose. It comes from being comfortable with the people around you.

Now, were these styles designed specifically for wandering through a farm? Not exactly. But were they designed for moving, living, laughing, working, going places, changing plans, and feeling good through all of it? Absolutely.

We’ve always believed the best clothes shouldn’t require you to stand perfectly still. They should work in the life you’re already living. So watching this collection move through a very real day felt pretty fitting. Dresses through the grass. Sweaters layered on when the temperature dropped. Pieces that still looked pulled together even when the day itself became a little less so. That’s the kind of versatility we mean when we talk about clothes made for real life.

About halfway through the photoshoot, fall weather decided to join us. It wasn’t exactly what we had planned. We might have liked it better that way.

After years of working together, no one needed the day to be perfect. Everyone rolled with it. We found the shots we could, made the most of the weather, and spent the rest of the time enjoying where we were and who we were with. Those tend to be the days you remember anyway.

A lot has changed since Maggie first stepped in front of a Duffield Lane camera. But one thing we hope never changes is the way we value the people who become part of Duffield Lane along the way.

We’ve always believed in building things for the long haul. Clothes you’ll want to reach for season after season. Partnerships that have room to evolve. Working relationships that become friendships. People who continue to show up for one another as life and business change around them.

Maybe that’s why this particular fall photoshoot felt so special. It wasn’t only about photographing what was new. It was a chance to appreciate something that has been there all along.
