I have been going to Leland, MI since I was 16 years old. What makes Leland special to me are the people and the natural beauty. My husband and kids love it as much as I do. The most special moments are sitting on our deck looking over Lake Michigan watching a bald eagle fly by, seeing a different sunset each evening, and we were fortunate enough to just see the Northern Lights! I love walking the beach and finding unknown treasures. Petoskey stones and Leland blues are my favorites! You are never bored in Leland- it’s great for anyone and everyone!
SEE
Fishtown and ordering lunch from Cheese Shanty (I recommend calling ahead). Hiking Clay Cliffs and Whaleback, walking along the beaches of Lake Michigan-Van’s beach and North beach are the best for rock hunting! The road biking through Leelanau County is incredible- the cherry blossoms are beautiful! Be sure to pick (and eat) fresh strawberries from Bardenhagen Farms- always a highlight of my summer.
SLEEP
We are fortunate enough to have our cottage, but off-season my favorite place to stay is the Leland Lodge. Bicycles are included to use during your stay along with postcards the Lodge will stamp and mail for you. It truly is a hidden gem!
SAVOR & SWEETS
If dining at the Cove, I recommend the Whitefish tacos. Harbor House is the best place to get ice cream. I recommend strolling through Fishtown or walking along the harbor looking at all the boats while enjoying the sweet treat!
SHOP
#1 Of course is Duffield Lane. My other go-to shops are Leland Gal, Leelanau Books (great kids' activities and crafts), Two Fish Gallery, Haystacks, and Greta’s.
SIP
Leland Lemonade from the Cove or Chubby Mary, which is a meal in itself. We also love a glass of wine on our deck looking over Lake Michigan while watching the sunset.
STYLE
The Yvonne dress is perfect for meeting friends for drinks, parties, or wine tasting. The Serena scallop tank and Sherri skort are favorites for playing tennis, walking the beach, or hiking.
